Seminar: Hadith, History, and the End Times

On 15 May 2025 15:15–17:00 at LUX B417, visitng PhD student from Ankara University (and Erasmus+ fellow) Rabia Sena Çakır Ihsan will lead a seminar in association with At the End of the World and the Centre for Theology and Religious Studies's Islamic Studies seminar. The seminar will be titled "Hadith, History, and the End Times: A Study of Fiten and Malāḥim in Islamic Tradition."

Abstract:

The seminar introduces apocalyptic narratives in hadiths, particularly those related to end-time events such as the emergence of the black banners and the Great War (al-malḥama al-kubrā), alongside the return of Jesus. It also explores how these traditions are interpreted in contemporary contexts by various Islamic groups.
